He’s number one

They seem to have changed it now, but I wanted to point out something I noticed about yesterday’s cover of the Toronto Sun that further illustrated why it just isn’t a very good paper. The lead photo was a picture of tennis player Roger Federer holding up a trophy and looking pleased with himself after winning the Rogers Cup. The huge headline above it, which went with an unrelated story about the AIDS conference going on in Toronto, declared the disease “Public Enemy No. 1”.

So, in a classic blunder straight out of a J-school lecture, one much like the time I saw a headline about disgraced media mogul Conrad Black reading “Black Charged with Fraud” placed right next to a photo of recently resigned African-American head of state Colin Powell, it looked to the casual observer as though the lead story was about Roger Federer not only being declared Public Enemy No. 1, but also being awarded a trophy to commemorate his coming in first. Congratulations, Roger.
