Ironically, wasting time in my bathrobe watching this is the very opposite of getting dressed for success
After reading a review of the recent Roxette greatest hits collection (verdict: as good as can be reasonably expected), I thought it might be fun to start a scurrilous rumour about someone that he had “Dressed for Success” as his ringtone. So I headed over to YouTube to watch that video, whereupon I couldn’t stop watching it over and over. In particular, I got obsessed with this ridiculous little moment about 40 seconds in where Marie Fredriksson is dancing in a very smug way — smirking, eyes closed, fingertips on her lapels — and then Per Gessle leans over and sings, “Whatcha gonna do, brother?” at which point she just stops short and turns toward him with a look of mock shock before turning back to the camera with a bug-eyed, hooting expression as she sings, “oh-oh-oh!” I kept backing it up, and it got funnier every time I saw it. I know this is stupid, but here, look for yourself:
Bizarre. There’s some particularly absurd head-bobbing on the part of a backup dancer later in the video as well. On the other hand, I’m pretty convinced that the chorus to “Dressed for Success” would actually make a good ringtone. The song is so synth-driven that it already sounds like one.
