The trial and execution of Dave Barry

Candace [reading How to Be Canadian by Will and Ian Ferguson]: The sense of humour in this reminds me of Dave Barry. When I was in Thailand, I used to read him in the Bangkok Post every Sunday. But now he’s on sabbatical.

Me: On sabbatical? You mean on trial.

Candace: What?! For what?

Me: Murder.

Candace: Oh, shut up.

Me: He stone-cold strangled a guy. In the middle of the grocery store. Over the last carton of milk.

Candace: Uh huh. And did he write an article about it?

Me: Yeah. It was actually pretty funny. At least, the way he told it.

It’s difficult to argue that Dave Barry deserves to be executed but I’m not sure I could successfully argue against it either.

We eventually agreed that the appropriate punishment would be being sentenced to be played by Harry Anderson in a sitcom based on his life.

So was the murder the cause for the punishment, or was the punishment the cause for the murder?
